For the past 25 years, from his studio in Zurich, Kurt Caviezel has been monitoring tens of thousands publicly accessible surveillance-cams located all over the world.

Since 2020, he has been working with the zhaw (zurich university of applied sciences) as a cooperation partner for his “WATCHING THE WORLD” project.

By downloading single images or taking screenshots of situations he finds interesting, he uses algorithms and AI to compile a huge pool of images and an immense archive and categorizes them according to various criteria, recurring patterns and themes.
Every day, 2 million images are downloaded.

He is the pioneer of a new kind of photography. Basically he understands the web as a camera - as his camera. And this camera is huge, very huge.
